Winfarthing Anglo-Saxon Project
After becoming a member of the Winfarthing Anglo-Saxon Project Group I was asked to produce a series of pull-up banners outlining the story behind the nationally-important archaeological discovery of Anglo-Saxon burial treasures. The find unearthed high-value, ornate Anglo-Saxon jewellery, including gold pendants, coins, a skeleton and other historic burial artefacts. It was discovered by a local metal detectorist in a field just outside the Norfolk village of Winfarthing. After researching the subject, Smith provided both the editorial and design, curating imagery from a wide range of sources – such as 3D reconstructions from a dedicated TimeTeam TV programme, dig photography and images of the rennovated items from the newly-refurbished Norwich Castle Museum. The final designs not only tell the story but also seek to place the finds in a wider historical and geographical context. The banners are used as an educational tool and also provide an eye-catching backdrop to the charity's promotional and money-raising events.
